The competition aims to engage teams of young scientists who work or study at universities or research institutions of the Ministry of Education and Science. The projects are expected to include those who meet the definition of young scientists provided in the Law of Ukraine "On Scientific and Scientific-Technical Activities" [https://zakon.rada.gov.ua/laws/show/848-19#Text].

Deadline for project submission: October 24, 2023.

The results of the competition will be announced by December 22, 2023.

With this motto, the ONU’s Student Council and active students kick-started the Saturday morning, joining the World Cleanup Day, carried out the country’s most large-scale green movement “Let’s do it, Ukraine”.

On 16 September, in Odesa, young activists joined the Municipal Enterprise “Miskzelentrest” and cleaned up about 1500 kg of waste and garbage in Savitskyi Park. These were mostly plastic cups and bags, food packages, and glass.

On 26-27 October 2023, the State Scientific and Technical Library of Ukraine holds the Second International Conference "Open Science and Innovations in Ukraine 2023," to discuss the best practices implementation and future development prospects in open science. During 1- 21 September 2023, Tetiana KONDRATIUK, a PhD in the geology of oceans and seas, and Valentyna YANKO, a PhD candidate at the Geology and Geography Department of Odesa National Mechnikov University, perform their research work on board the Romanian research vessel "Mare Nigrum" in the Romanian and Bulgarian waters.

The works are carried out within Odesa National Mechnikov University’s associated participation in the international project "DOORS" - "Developing Optimal and Open Research Support for the Black Sea.” This EU research project incorporates science, politics, and industry to recover the Black Sea.

During 12 days, students of Odesa I.I. Mechnikov National University attended various workshops and lectures as part of the "Summer School for the Promotion of Democratic Values" held at Gdańsk University (Poland).

The University's application for funding within the program to train qualified translators for European Union institutions has just received the green light from the European Parliament.

The summer school, European Science Campus 2023, took place from July 19th, 2023, to July 30th, 2023, at the University of Gdańsk, has concluded with the participation of four students from Odesa I.I. Mechnikov National University from the faculties of Economics, Politics, and Biological Sciences. The event aimed to enhance the scientific competencies of students at different educational levels.

The Young Science Congress, which took place from July 6th to July 11th, 2023 at the University of Gdansk, in partnership with ONU Mechnikov has been completed. The Congress aimed to facilitate the research exchange among young scholars as well as to and establish closer relations between the University of Gdansk and ONU Mechnikov.

Vyacheslav Truba, Odesa I.I. Mechnikov National University Rector, and Mayya Nikolaeva, First Vice-Rector, visited Gdansk, Poland, last week, to participate in the conference "Focus on Ukraine" organized by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) and the University of Gdansk. Policymakers and representatives of Polish and Ukrainian educational communities met at the conference to discuss ways to support Ukrainian universities during the war.

On March 30, 2022, in an effort to promote global progress and prosperity, Office for International Relations organized a seminar for outreach under the auspices of the United Nations Academic Impact Programme.

The event focused on raising awareness of the significance, as well as the key themes and mechanisms, of the Sustainable Development Goals, as set out in the United Nations policy document "Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development". Omar Hernández – United Nations Academic Impact Public Communications Officer and programme manager hosted an event as a speaker.

Members of faculties and administration, academics, and international relations officers - all of them walked away with valuable knowledge on the crucial role universities play in meeting the Sustainable Development Goals.

In addition, the event highlighted key principles of the SDG integration in university activities and the monumental impact of the UN in implementing the programme.

As the seminar came to a close, participants had the opportunity to ask all of their questions, receiving comprehensive answers that helped to reemphasize the utmost significance of the latest global trends in the involvement of universities in sustainable development programmes, as well as the modernization of educational and research activities in line with the SDG indicators.

The classes for the English-speaking groups of the international students at the Economics and Law Faculty as well as the Mathematics, Physics, and Information Technologies Faculty enrolled in November are at full hand.

It's the first time we've ever started studies of the international English-speaking master group in the specialty 126 "Information Systems and Technologies" and the second time in the specialty 073 «Management».

All the classes are online. The students are doing great job by fulfilling the requirements of educational programs. Very soon will get on with their first exams at our university. Let's wish them good luck!

The graduates from People's Republic of China of the master program of management fully delivered in English endeavored their thesis defense at the ONU Mechnikov Economics and Law Faculty last week.
The theses themselves as well as the defense were exclusively in English.

Associate professor of the international relations department Volodymyr Dubovyk took part in the round table "Russia's invasion of Ukraine: repercussions for Belarus and Moldova" at the Fletcher school of law and diplomacy, Tufts university (U.S.) on October 13, 2022.

On October 10-14, 2022, the XII International Summer School "Response to New Nuclear Realities: Concepts and Actions" was held, organized by the Odesa Center for Nonproliferation and the Bodrum Institute with the support of the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority and the Richard Lounsbury Foundation. The Summer School was held in the Turkish city of Bodrum. During three days, full of lectures, discussions, and a simulation game, where each student represented his own UN member country, 44 participants from 10 countries took part in the School offline and online. The School's program focused on the study and analysis of the impact of the war in Ukraine on arms control and nonproliferation. The Odesa Center for Nonproliferation supported 8 Ukrainian students in their professional and academic activities by providing scholarships for their participation. The main goal of the Summer School is to train the youth of Europe and the countries of the Black Sea region in the field of nonproliferation, the policy of nuclear countries, arms control and disarmament. Polina Sinovets, Director of the OdCNP and Associate Professor of the Department of International Relations, prepared two lectures for School participants, namely "War in Ukraine: impact on non-proliferation and disarmament" and "Russian nuclear doctrine and European security ".

Associate professor of the department of international relations Volodymyr Dubovyk has started his fellowship at the Tufts university (Medford, U.S.) on October 10, 2022. He is invited by the Fletcher school of law and diplomacy.

In the fall semester of the 2022/23 academic year, two university-wide optional subjects about Ukraine began at the University of Warsaw.

The Odesa Center for Nonproliferation presented a new monograph "Arms Control and Europe: New Challenges and Prospects for Strategic Stability" edited by Polina Sinovets and William Alberk, published by Springer. The monograph consists of three parts: "The US, Russia: new challenges and strategic stability in Europe", "Extended deterrence and arms control in Europe", "Regional dimentions of strategic stability in Europe". The Department of International Relations of the I. I. Mechnikov National University made a significant contribution to the monograph, which includes articles by Professor Olga Brusylovska, Associate Professor Polina Sinovets, Associate Professor Iryna Maksymenko, the OdCNP's leading expert Valeria Gergieva, and IR ONU 2015 alumna MA Valeria Hesse.

The Odesa Center for Nonproliferation (OdCNP) presented its new publication, which contains the most complete nuclear history of Ukraine. The book was published by Springer. Thanks to the cooperation of the best Ukrainian experts in the field, the book reveals the significance of Ukraine's role in the USSR's nuclear program, and also analyses the dreams of nuclear deterrence and the importance of civil cooperation in nuclear energy.
