Graduated from the Biological Faculty of I. I. Mechnikov State University of Odesa in 1985; in 1994 he defended his candidate's thesis at the Specialized Academic Council of the O. O. Kovalevsky Institute of Biology of the Southern Seas; in 2005 – received the academic title of associate professor of the department of hydrobiology and general ecology.

The author of about 236 scientific publications: 23 articles in scientometric databases (Web of Science, Scopus), 8 educational and methodological publications, 33 articles in specialized publications of Ukraine, 6 collective monographs.

Scientific interests: ichthyology, fish stock assessment, fish nutrition and their feed base, structure of fish populations
