Scientific research department

On 22 of July the scientific research department (SRB) was established in Odessa National Mechnikov University. It laid foundations for a systematic approach to the development of scientific researches.
In 1978 Odessa University obtained the status of a leading higher education establishment in the sphere of research projects. Departmental scientific research groups were united into branches. It let the priority trends of work stand out and helped the scientists to concentrate their efforts on these trends.
Basic research laboratories of inflammable materials, the synthesis of psychotropic substances, geography and protection of the Black Belt, engineering geology were founded within the framework of the scientific research department (SRD).
In 1984 the scientific research department (SRD) profoundly changed the form of organization of scientific work and became the fundamental institution of the university.

The scientists who were in charge of the university research work at different times contributed largely to the organization of scientific researches – professors V.O.Fedoseev, V.V.Fashchenko, G.I.Zelinskiy, O.G.Topchiev, M.M.Chesnokov.
Nowadays the vice-principal for scientific matters, technologies and introduction of inventions, doctor of biological studies, professor V.O.Ivanitsya has been taking the lead of SRD activities since 1997.
Administration and operational control of the SRD activities is realized by the head of the SRD – the deputy vice-principal for scientific matters, technologies and introduction of inventions L.K.Malygin.
