The Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies Department
General Information
The Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies Department (P&DSD) is a structural subdivision of the Odessa I.I. Mechnikov National University (ONU).
Conducting scientific research, preparation of dissertation papers, passing the procedure of defence of PhD and Doctoral theses, adoption and implementation of the obtained results in science, education and various spheres of activities make it possible to characterize the process of highly-qualified scientific/academic personnel preparation as one that is to provide support for the effective development of scientific, technological and innovative priorities of the national economy, its most important industries.
Preparation of scientific staff in postgraduate and doctoral studies is considered to be a strategic task and one of the main sources of constant replenishment and updating of intellectual potential of ONU as well as the country, her scientific elite as a whole.
Since 2016, Odessa I.I. Mechnikov National University provides training for Candidates taking a Postgraduate/Doctoral course and pursuing PhD, Doctoral Degree in accordance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated March 23, 2016, No. 261, ‘The Procedure of Training Seekers pursuing Doctor of Philosophy (PhD and Doctoral Degree (DD) in Higher Educational Institutions (Scientific Establishments)'; the training is carried out in conformity with Academic Curriculum and Syllabi approved by the ONU Academic Board for each speciality.
The normative training term for Doctoral degree within the framework of Doctorate Curriculum is two years.
ONU provides daylight- and evening-hours studies for PhD students, invites applicants for PhD Degree within the limits of the obtained licenses for 21 specialties.

The language of instruction in all the areas of studies except English Academic Writing course (within the framework of English for Academic Purposes Syllabus) is Ukrainian.
The normative training term for Doctoral degree within the framework of Doctorate Curriculum is two years.
Admission to the Postgraduate studies at ONU is held twice a year: in March (at the expense of individuals and legal entities) and in August when the admission in accordance with the government order is envisaged.
