The Department of world economy and international economic relations specializes on the field of international flows of goods, services and factor of productions, international finance and international monetary system. The Department’s research is undertaken by its faculty and 14 PhD students, working on a wide range of topics in these areas.

The main areas of research at the Department include:

• Development of national financial systems,
• External debt,
• Balance of payments correction,
• Foreign direct investment,
• International financial markets
• International trade and migration,
• International economic integration,
• EU economic integration and EU economy,
• International competition and international competitiveness of countries,
• Development of market structures and Ukrainian companies strategies,
• Innovations in international economic relations.

The Department promotes collaborative research within the University and externally. Its research environment is also built around the Department's Odesa research seminar in international economic relations, annual scientific conference and regular internal workshops.

The state scientific research topic «Sustainable development of national economies in the conditions of global financial system instability» is opened at the Department.

Scientific research within the scientific topic aims at identifying indicators of sustainable development of national economies, assessment of the economic stability of developing countries, assessment of economic stability of developed countries, rating the stability of the world economy, developing recommendations for the creation of appropriate conditions for sustainable economic development of Ukraine.

The following results are expected: the indicators of sustainable development of national economies are identified, the economic stability of the industrialized countries and developing countries is estimated, and recommendations for the creation of appropriate conditions for sustainable economic development of Ukraine are prepared. In 2011-2015 the indicators of stability of industrialized economies, the influence of monetary policy on the competitiveness of the economies of the United States, European Union, Japan, factors that affect the stability of the world economy as a whole, the peculiarities of international capital flows and other economic factors will be determined.
