The chair was founded on the 1st of September 2000.
It was founded on the basis of Computer software numerical mathematics.
Section of Computer software at the chair of numerical mathematics was founded in 1972, when the new speciality “Applied mathematics” was opened in the time of Soviet Union at universities upon condition that each university should carry out its curriculum under this speciality.
Associated professors Ostroukhov D.O. and Tikhonenko M.Y. have carried out such plan, including such disciplines wich had been new at that time and had been connected with programming, namely: “Logistics and algorithms theory”, “Translation method”, “Computation system and computer systems”, “Programming languages and language implementors”, “Programming technologies”. The all-union meeting of Ministry of Education USSR on curriculums under speciality “Applied mathematics” took place in Odessa University in 1973. The curriculum of Odessa university, according to the decision of this meeting, was the best, under this speciality, and it was taken as the basic curriculum under “Appiled mathematics” in the Soviet Union.
Section of Computer software at the chair of numerical mathematics has been working hard. It’s necessary to point the main work in this direction, wich belongs to associated professor Ostroukhov D.O. who carried out the educational programs in the following courses “Translation theory”, “Programming languages and language implementors” wich were accepted in Soviet Union; associated professor Grebyonkin V.M. who has been giving plenty of lectures during a long period of time on the subjects: “Games theory”, “Automated control systems”, associated professor Mackogon V.S., who has given the course “Informatics and Computer” for the first time in Ukraine in 1980, associated professor Matushevskiy V.V. who has been giving the course of lectures on the subject “Service system”
Computer software section trained the teaching staff by means of purpose postgraduate study.
Associated professors Petrushina T.I., Krapivniy Y.M., Penko V.G., Kameneva A.V. graduated it, and now they are chief teachers at the computer systems software chair.
At the beginning of foundation, the chair was conducted by professor Tikhonenko M.Y., the doctor of phys.-maths science.
There are 20 teachers, 18 regular lecturers, including:
- doctors of science, professors – 1;
- candidates of science, professors – 9;
- secondary teachers – 2, one of them is the candidate of science, associated professor.

The chair conducts the scientific researches only by own forces of teachers and graduate students. The scientific researches are conducted under two scientific topics, wich are in projects of scientific researches of Departement of Education and Science of Ukraine. 9 scientific works and 18 reports of different scientific conferences were published by chair teachers in 2004. The teachers of the chair made 22 reports at 11 scientific conferences in 2004.
The chair conducts and organizes the student’s scientific work. Thus, in 2004:
- quality of students, who took part in scientific work of the chair – 32;
- published works in partnership of students – 1;
- quality of speeches at scientific conferences – 19;
Such rewards were received at different competitions:
- All-Ukrainian Informatics Olympics (Ternopol, 2004) – 1st place, 4th year student Obukhov P.G.
