On the 5th of February 2008 in order to develop educational, methodical and scientific activity of the specialty “International economic relations” department “World economy and international economic relations” was formed in the Odesa National I.I. Mechnikov University.
At the “World Economy and International Economic Relations” department there are two Doctor Nauk, Professors, five Kandidat Nauk (two more faculty members of the department have prepared Candidates of Science dissertations, which have been recommended to be defended; the defense will take place within 2010), three Senior Lecturers and three Assistants also work at the department . During the latest years about 100 scientific and science-methodical works have been printed by the faculty members of the “World Economy and International Economic Relations” department with the specialty “International Economic Relations”, in particular 5 manuals wereapproved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. At the department two topics of scientific research are formed and supervised by Professor Yakubovsky S.O. («Study of the key principles of financial systems’ development in the conditions of globalization») and docent Dolenko L.K. («Principles of development of sectoral structures and strategies of companies in the Ukrainian economy»).
The key point of the scientific research topic «Study of the key principles of financial systems’ development in the conditions of globalization» is formation of valuation methodology of international investment operations impact on national financial systems stability; analysis of influence of international investments on the key competitiveness indexes, which define international competitiveness of the country: export and import of goods and services, trade balance, balance of services, profit repatriation from the international investments and, finally, current account balance; research of investment position of the country.
The main object of the research is formation of effective regulation of international capital flows; regression models creation, which will define quantitative and qualitative connection between international investments and key macroeconomic indexes of countries; development of practical recommendations concerning rise of financial stability of Ukrainian economy.
The scope of research is the particularities of development of national financial systems of both developed and developing countries in the conditions of globalization. Special attention of research is devoted to the factors of financial stability of CIS countries, more particularly Russian Federation and Ukraine.
The following scientific results were worked out: the definition of the role of developing countries in the world economy has been formed on a breakthrough level; it has been proved that these countries, having positive current account balance, are the donors of world financial system; the research was devoted to special features of fiscal policy in developing countries; the role of exchange rate in the rise of competitiveness of the Asian countries has been evaluated, more particularly in China; the influence of financial factors on the economies of the Central and Eastern Europe countries has been analyzed; it has been shown that the stability of financial systems of Ukraine and Poland in the conditions of external shocks has worsened, and the ratio between liquid actives and the gross domestic debt has decreased. In the first place this situation was stimulated by the structure of current account of the countries, balances of which are negative and are financed at the expense of cheap incoming resources. On the one hand, the flow of cheap external resources stimulates internal demand in both countries and economic growth, and on the other – further current account balance structure deterioration and the increase of external debt.
The key point of the scientific research «Principles of development of sectoral structures and strategies of companies in the Ukrainian economy» is formation of methodology of market structures research, the classifications of existing approaches to the analysis of market structures in the world literature and strategies of companies. The objective of the research is the definition of specific features of certain market operations.
The scope of research: detailed analysis of theoretic fundamentals of companies’ cooperation, formation and functioning of shipbuilding branch in Ukraine and its shipbuilding and marine transport branches of industry, as well as the peculiarities of shadow economics in this sector.
The following research results have been received: the fundamental factors of companies’ cooperation have been revealed and grounded; transport and expeditioning activity in the Odesa region has been thoroughly studied, as a result of this research monograph has been published and Candidate of Science dissertation, devoted to the analysis of shipbuilding sector of Ukraine has been prepared for defense.
