Psychology in the Fulbright format

dz1

International ties are becoming part of our everyday lives. We are increasingly not only traveling abroad for congresses, conferences, internships, etc., but also accept foreign guests at our university in same formats. It is unlikely that there will be a faculty that would not have such connections.

But today it is about work at the Odessa University by Jason David Hans - a Fulbright Program partisipant, a professor at the Faculty of Family Studies, editor-in-chief of the journal “Family Science Review” (University of Kentucky), - who for the second time worked with students, doctoral students and lecturers in our Faculty of Psychology.
In the first Fulbright term, Professor Jason Hans taught two semesters in English with lectures on family problems and sexual relations for students of different faculties. Certificate of graduation was received by 27 students.
This academic year began on September 7, 2017, with a public lecture by Professor D. Hans "Scientific publications in the USA: myths and reality" at the regular meeting of the psychology section at the Odessa House of Scientists.

According to the first year master program student on psychology Ivan Zyablov:

From the course of Professor Jason Hans we got a lot of pleasure and benefit. First of all it was an excellent opportunity to obtain modern knowledge from prominent foreign university. Knowledge, which will be useful to us in the future, when we will write our master's degree theses. Secondly, it is possible to get experience and knowledge about the education system in the US. And also it’s a wonderful practice of professional English. During this course we received a lot of useful information. And interesting tasks, presentations and teaching talent of Professor Hans helped us with its assimilation. Besides, additional material with various notes, tables and compressed cribs, obtained during the lessons, are especially useful in constructing our thesis research.

Liudmyla Zlatova, Doctoral student of the department of Differential and Special Psychology, Odesa I.I.Mechnikov National University, noted:

The regular academic year flew very quickly. A lot of new material, as well as profound work on scientific articles and dissertation for us are in active development. Along with reforms for doctoral students, the requirements for the educational process have also changed. And the most important emphasis now is on the knowledge of English at the academic level. Consequently, it is important to have time to master this subject... and to study with a high-professional teacher. I was lucky as I came across an annual English-language statistical analysis course by professor of the University of Kentucky Jason D. Hans. I did not even imagine that statistics can be both clear and interesting, but the perfect basic knowledge of the teacher, exclusively professional presentation and charisma made the two-hour lectures easy and understandable even for a beginner doctoral student. I believe that this experience was significant to me both from the practice of the English language and the formation of the concept of writing scientific articles. Personally, I was interested in the terms and rules for writing an article for an American scientific journal. This accumulated experience has come in handy and has given me confidence in the future. So, I am grateful to Jason Hans for the incredibly exciting work, Rodion Svynarenko for helping, sometimes "decoding", and professional knowledge, as well as Valentina Ivanovna Podshyvalkina for her support and participation in the project. The year of Professor Jason Hans's stay at Odesa I.I.Mechnikov National University ends with two last events. On May 29, 2018, at 12.00 a meeting was held with the staff of the Scientific Library on "Scientific periodicals in the USA: traditions and modernity". Our guest gave the university two sets of method technique literature with requirements for the research organization in psychology and regarding its publication. In addition, Professor Jason Hans will take part in the Third All-Ukrainian Summer School of Psychology with international participation "National Scientific Psychological Schools: History and Contemporaneity" on June 23-28, 2018 at the recreation center "Chornomorka" that is dedicated to the 160th anniversary of Professor M. M. Lange birth and the 120th anniversary of the opening of Psychological Seminary at St. Volodymyr's University (Taras Shevchenko National University) with a presentation "The First Steps to Publications in International Journals." Another school year has flown by very quickly. But it was a year when psychologists of different generations had the opportunity to participate in a learning process that was created by the traditions of another country with a talented teacher, Professor Jason Hans. It gives many new ideas, new skills and... memories. Thank you all for your cooperation.
